NFL Opening Game – Thursday Night Football – Los Angeles Rams vs. Buffalo Bills

The 103^rd edition of the National Football League(NFL) started off with a bang as the Reigning Champions came up against the composed-looking Buffalo Bills in the Thursday night Clash. While many expected it to be a scintillating opening game for what promises to be a fabulous NFL season for both the teams and the fans, the reality was much different. The wake-up call punched the defending champions in their face as the Rams were caught napping against the Bills’ brilliance. A 31-10 defeat against the Bills will hopefully put things in perspective for Los Angeles Rams and get them out of any hangover of the previous Super Bowl Victory.

Build-up:

It was a fabulous Thursday Night as a jam-packed Sofi Stadium welcomed the two teams to kickstart the proceedings. More than 70,000 spectators had gathered at the Sofi Stadium to see their home team LA Rams, take on the Buffalo Bills. However, the result was much different and contradictory to their expectations.

On the other hand, the Bills lived up to the expectations as they entered the NFL season with some high hopes, expectations, and optimism. Many rated them as very strong candidates for this year’s super bowl, and they just had the perfect start for it last night.

As it happened:

Bills had shown their intent and approach in the first quarter as they racked up 7 points in the first quarter to go up by 7-0. However, the Rams came back with 10 points in the second quarter while the Bills managed three. By the end of the first half, the two teams were leveled at 10-10. It seemed like the game was set up pretty well for an entertaining and fascinating second half. However, what followed was total carnage for the home side. Bills racked up a 21-point second half to make it a one-sided affair. They warmed up with 7 points in the third quarter and capped it up with 14 in the last to make the score line 31-10 in the opening game of the NFL.

Josh Allen’s Brilliance:

On a player level, it was Bills Quarter Back Josh Allen who took the attack to the opposition in the second half. He managed 3 touchdowns in the second half and four in total to take Buffalo home.

Allen had started the game impressively with 5 of 5 in the first quarter. Eventually, he finished with 26 of 31 for a total of 297 yards. Thus, showing the skill, talent, and class that he possessed. It is important to mention that this was the first time that Allen managed 10 passes in a game. It was also the Career best performance by Allen. Looking ahead, the season could be a great one for the 26-year-old quarterback.

Statistically, the Bills had 413 yards of offense, while the Rams managed only 243 yards. Overall, the Bills converted 9 of their 10 third downs.

Upcoming Games:

It was an embarrassing night for the Rams, where they committed many errors and mistakes. However, it is just one bad game, and one should expect the defending champions to come back stronger next week. Their upcoming fixture is on Monday, September 19^th, when they host Atlanta Falcons at the Sofi Stadium.

Buffalo Bills have their next game against the Tennessee Titans scheduled on Tuesday, 20^th September 2022. They would ideally love to continue their form and take the momentum forward.
